Kevin Bauer is a Professor of Game-Theoretic and Causal AI in Business and Economics at Goethe University Frankfurt, which is integrated into Hessian.AI. His research lies at the intersection of economics and technology, with a focus on explainable AI, algorithmic transparency, causal machine learning, and human information processing. His work has been published in leading journals such as Information Systems Research, Marketing Science, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Business & Information Systems Engineering. He has received prestigious awards for his research, including the Information Systems Research Best Paper Award and the Association for Information Systems Senior Scholar Award. Kevin also serves as a reviewer for top-tier journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Management Science.
Born in 1991, Kevin earned two Master's degrees in Quantitative Economics (specializing in Applied Microeconomics) and Information Systems (specializing in AI). He completed his PhD at Goethe University Frankfurt in 2018. Afterward, he worked as an AI specialist at Frankfurt’s startup hub TechQuartier, where he contributed to developing the AI ecosystem in the Rhein-Main area. In 2020, he joined the SAFE Leibniz Institute for Financial Research as a PostDoc, investigating the impact of AI on the financial system from a human-AI interaction perspective. From 2023 to 2024, he served as an Assistant Professor for E-Business and E-Government at the University of Mannheim in the Information Systems area. In 2025, Kevin returned to Goethe University Frankfurt to assume the Professorship of Game-Theoretic and Causal AI in Business and Economics.
