Information Bachelor Theses
If you are interested in writing your Bachelor thesis at the chair of Professor Kosfeld, please read the following carefully.
For the registration of Bachelor theses, the compulsory application procedures by the examination regulation apply. Please keep in mind that we can only accept theses through the official QIS process. You can find information regarding the process and effective deadlines on the website of the examination authority.
We supervise only theses in one of the two following formats (starting in summer 2025):
- Design and implementation of an experiment. Based on the literature, you identify a research question and design a simple economic experiment to address it – for example by varying an experiment from the literature. You collect some own data online, analyze them statistically and present your results in graphics and text.
- Working with a available dataset You develop a simple research question and address it using one or more publicly available datasets. Examples could be the analysis of certain correlations, temporal trends, or the comparison of specific countries or regions. In your thesis, you introduce your question, related literature and the data, before then presenting your results graphically and statistically.
Of course, the expectation for a Bachelor thesis is not to achieve statistically significant or otherwise strong results. Rather, the goal is to practice empirical work using a concrete example and to present the results in an appropriate form.
As part of the supervision, we will of course provide advisory support in identifying a suitable research question and planning the study design. Please also note this PDF with further information on the two formats, helpful literature as well as examples for suitable data sets. We recommend to also read this document before deciding for us in the application procedure on QIS.
Once the supervision slots have been assigned via QIS, we plan to hold a short introductory meeting with all our supervisees, to present the format and our expectations in more detail, as well as answer any open questions. We will publish the date here in time.
