Shafik Hebous was assistant professor at the department of economics at the Goethe University Frankfurt associated with the Chair of Public Finance . His research focuses on fiscal policy from macroeconomic and microeconomic perspectives including issues of fiscal stabilisation, international taxation, FDI, and related topics in international economics.

He obtained a Ph.D. in economics in November 2010 from the Goethe University Frankfurt. Before joining the Ph.D. program in Frankfurt, he studied economics at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

He has been a visiting scholar in a number of institutions such as the economics department at the University of California at Berkeley, the Centre for Business Taxation at the University of Oxford, the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), and the research centre of the Deutsche Bundesbank.
